2025.03.26 - Wiki, more fan-art and optimization

Been a while since I wrote anything here, but that's because for the most part I simply uploaded my drawings here and occasionally fan art I've received. Well, today I actually made some major updates to the website!

First of all, something that's been a long time coming: the Frostburn Wiki!

Well, some of it. It's gonna take me a while to actually write all of it and I only wrote a handful of articles for characters so far, but that's a start! Each article currently has a quick summary of the character, their relationships, and a list of all the drawings they're featured in. More detailed articles will follow whenever I have time to write them, as of writing this blogpost I've already written full articles for Ivan, Autumn, Pamela, Alice, Lilith and Samantha, and I'm currently in the process of writing the article for Catherine. After the character articles are done I'll start writing more articles on the setting itself. There aren't necessary reading, of course, but if you enjoy reading lore stuff, hopefully this will be interesting to you.

Second: More fan-art! I mostly kept this website for my original art and fan-art I've received, but I decided that it might be worth archiving some of the fanart I've drawn over the years. For now I uploaded my recent Touhou drawings, and I might upload some other past fan-art for other series later. Please keep in mind though that the moment I start running out of space, these drawings withh be the first ones on the chopping block, so if there are any you like I'd suggest saving them.

And finally, optimization. Turns out the way I did certain elements caused way, way more GPU usage than any normal webpage should use. Specifically, apparently just using any blending mode on a background image is enough to make the website use as much GPU as a video being played. Whoops. I didn't realize it until earlier today when I was testing the wiki on mobile and noticed choppy performance, eventually narrowing down the culprit. If you ever had performance issues while browsing this website, I apologize, because I genuinely had no idea a single fixed image set to a "multiply" blending mode can cause this much havoc. Ironic how of all the things I worried about causing performance issues (like my overreliance on scripts for repeating elements), the real trouble came from a single CSS line.

That's all for now. Hard to believe this website has been around for over a year now and how much it's changed since then. Well, except the design, that one is still being kept as simple and utilitarian as it was on day 1 until I finally finish everything else. Maybe someday...
