The world of Frostburn takes place an Earth-like planet inhabited by anthropomorphic beings resembling humans with various mammal animal traits. For the sake of simplicity, it can be assumed that their world is similar to ours unless stated otherwise, with the key difference that magic is real and follows its own rules that usually contradict natural order.
Most events currently focused on take place approximately two decades after the Exothaumic Emission Event, a cataclysmic event that caused supernatural phenomena to run rampant throughout the world, and center around characters with ties to Hyperborea, a company focusing on extracting and researching a mineral with supernatural properties, as well as its many subsidiaries.
